Originally released in 2012, the UR-210 is Urwerk’s signature timepiece and this year the watchmaker is presenting the latest version of its flagship, the UR-210 “Last Edition”. After an eight-year run, Urwerk is offering a proper sendoff to the UR-210.
The watch still features its iconic dual power indicator displays as well as its uniquely shaped sapphire crystal and recognizable case design. However, the “Last Edition” boasts a muted gunmetal grey titanium and steel case, accented by black PVD and red text on the face.
As symmetric as its predecessors the “Last Edition” features a retrograde feature, which counts the minutes until it reaches 60 and then flies back to zero with an audible sound highlighting the beginning of each new hour.
“A protective band frames the complexly shaped sapphire crystal glass of the UR210 there is a certain amount of G-Shock in this design element. I like a three-dimensional topography of the case because it encourages both the eyes and hands to interact with it. The distinctive form empowers the case iconic character,” explained Martin Frei, co-founder, Urwerk.
The UR-210 graced the wrist of many aficionados and will be missed by the community. We will remember it as not only a daring design but as an engineering feat that pushed the industry to innovate.
