Highlights of Watches & Wonders 2020

For the first time, watch novelties will be revealed online. While we will not be able to touch and feel the watches for a while, we decided to share with you the highlights of Watches & Wonders 2020.

A.Lange & Söhne

The watchmaker surprised everyone last year by releasing the Odysseus, a sporty steel timepiece made for the modern gentleman. This year they are upping the ante with the Odysseus in white gold with an integrated rubber or leather strap.

The new member of the Odysseus family combines a 40.5mm white gold case with a grey dial. It also features white gold baton hands to ensure optimum legibility in any condition.
As usual for A.Lange & Söhne, the numerals of the outsize date and the letters of the large-format day display stand out in white on grey.

Overall we like the look of this watch and the option to have it with a rubber or leather strap makes it very versatile. This watch is made for the enthusiast who doesn’t like to compromise.

Panerai

The Laboratorio di Idee celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Luminor with its new creation, the Luminor Marina DMLS. Panerai is presenting production process for this Luminor Marina. Surprisingly light and at the same time incredibly resilient, the case is made of titanium with Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology, a futuristic 3D printing process by which titanium powder, sintered by a high power fiber optic laser.

This innovation allows the Luminor Marina to remain light, boast a very unique look and be as durable as possible. This process is unique for 2 reasons. First it allows the creation of a very unique blend of material providing the watch with extra durability. Second it creates hollow cavities to keep the watch under a certain weight. What a way to celebrate this iconic model’s 70th Anniversary.

Montblanc

The Montblanc 1858 adventure continues. It started at the top of the mountains then moved from the summit to the forest and now reached the icy caves thanks to the creative mind of Davide Cerrato and his team.

Montblanc’s new blue theme capsule is a nod to glaciers and snowy mountain environments. To pay homage to the brand’s heritage we recreated winter scenes featuring key products. Inspired by the legendary Minerva watches that were created for military use and exploration, the Montblanc 1858 Geosphere in Blue features a new blue and icy white aesthetic combined with a mix of materials such as titanium and ceramic.

On the dial, the world’s Seven Summits and the Mont Blanc are marked on the turning globes with blue dots and engraved on the case back. This 42mm timepiece comes in grade-5 titanium to ensure its robustness and durability while giving it an ever-changing look.

Jaeger-LeCoultre

The Master Control line is a simple yet very efficient line, it ticks all the boxes. The 2020 Master Control Calendar is no exception.

Its dial is very balanced in terms of layout, with the dates applied on its periphery and indicated with a red-tipped hand. The days and months are displayed on the upper part while the moon phase is set within the small second dial.

JLC

This timepiece offers a few twists compared to its predecessors, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s engineers have added a delightful new jumping complication. Every month, the date hand makes a 90-degree leap from the 15th to the 16th, in order not to obscure the moon-phase display.

Overall the Master Control Calendar is a watch that has everything a watch enthusiast would need. History, style, and technical prowess, it embodies what Jaeger-LeCoultre stands for.

Vacheron Constantin

Les Cabinotiers, Vacheron Constantin’s unique watchmaking division, is celebrating 2020 in music with a unique timepiece, the Les Cabinotiers Astronomical striking grand complication – Ode to music.

Featuring 19 complications ranging from minute repeater to perpetual calendar and solar time, this watch displays information on its front and backside. One of the prowess of this timepiece is the thickness of its caliber, measuring only 8mm it is a testament to Vacheron Constantin’s know-how.

One interesting aspect of this watch is the fact that it taps into one of the brand’s partnerships. Vacheron Constantin has been collaborating with the Abbey Road studios since the launch of its Fifty-Six collection and they recorded the chime of the minute repeater at the studio using orchestra-like techniques. With this watch, Vacheron Constantin proved once again that they are the masters of complications.
