Jean-Claude Biver needs no introduction. By far one of the watch industry’s most revered figures, Mr. Biver was recently awarded the Légion D’Honneur, France’s highest order of merit. He received his medal in Bern, Switzerland, in the presence of his family, close friends, representatives of the LVMH group and a few journalists. This distinction, awarded on a proposal from the French government, honors 45 years of an extraordinary entrepreneurial career in the field of watchmaking.
All of Mr. Biver’s achievements were mentioned during the ceremony. From his early years with AP (1975) to the chairmanship of LVMH’s Watchmaking Division. His days with Omega (1980) and the formidable Blancpain journey which started in 1982. Followed by the impressive development of Hublot as of 2004. There, he created the brand’s iconic “Art of Fusion” identity, hand in hand with Ricardo Guadalupe. The true recognition awarded by the Legion of Honour is actually echoed in one of Mr. Biver’s famous quotes: “We are not breaking with the past, on the contrary we are paying homage to it by connecting it to the future.”
«It is a great honor for me and truly gratifying to receive this recognition from France, the cradle of the idea of luxury,” he said during the ceremony. “First and foremost, I would like to dedicate this medal and the recognition it represents to my teams. They have followed and supported me throughout my career. They made such a success possible through their work, skills, experience, vision, and know-how.”
Through the exceptional contribution made to the development of the Swiss watch industry and the rapprochement of the two countries, France and Switzerland, the French Republic welcomed his entrepreneurial spirit, audacity and passion.
