New York .vs. Dubai Who Wins The Luxury Battle?

Luxury can be looked at in so many facets. From the goods that people acquire to the services that they consume and of course the environment in which they consume it in. Luxury is not easily developed nor easily acquired. In trying to answer the comparison between Dubai and New York and determining which city is in fact the most luxurious, I decided to analyze their environments, goods sold (fashion, shopping malls, etc), modes of transportation, and overall standards of service and standards of living.

New York is known to be the fashion capital of the world, financial capital of the world, and of course the city that never sleeps. However, when looking at its “luxurious” areas, we have to narrow our scope from a state that is over 54,500 square miles to about an area of 100 blocks which comprise what is known as Upper Manhattan. It is in this area that one can find luxury as most of the rest of the State would not be able to be compared to the likes of Dubai. Within these blocks one can find themselves nestled in between some of the world’s best fashion boutiques, Michelin restaurants, five star hotels, and of course most elegantly designed buildings and Architecture you can imagine. From Henri Bendel to Saks Fifth Avenue, Yves Saint Laurent to Prada, Cartier to Tiffany, Upper Manhattan really does have it all. The streets boast apartment buildings with doormen, a concierge service, and penthouses averaging $10 million dollars. Within these streets you find yourself surrounded by every type of vehicle, from a normal Toyota Camry to Maseratis and Ferraris alike. Upper Manhattan lends itself to finding some of the best dressed people in the world with exquisite taste only until you look at a city halfway across the world whose name boasts the definition of luxury- Dubai.

With a population of 2 million people on a land mass of a little over 1,500 square miles, Dubai is the city of class. It brings together the best of every luxurious city in the world in a confined space that no other city in the world can compare to. With some of the most advocated residential buildings, architecture, boardwalks, shopping malls, nightclubs, and infrastructure, we here at Ping Dubai advocate this city as the most luxurious in the world, even when compared to the one and only New York City.

Dubai is home to some of the most phenomenal 5, 6, and 7 star hotels. Even the standards of these stars differ as compared to their sister hotels abroad. For example, the Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai is far more exquisite as compared to its alliance hotels in the United States. Every aspect of service and hospitality is carefully thought of when it comes to the restaurants, nightclubs, shopping malls, and any other sector of hospitality. With some of the largest malls in the world, Dubai is the fashion capital of the Middle East. To no surprise, we have branches of everything from Hermes to MCM, our very own Saks Fifth Avenue, and even a Rodeo Drive.

The buildings and infrastructures are award winning, with the tallest building in the world- Burj Dubai, and some of the most phenomenal residential buildings, including a manmade island- the Palm. It would take an article all within itself to write about the details of service and property in Dubai, yet in one word one can say that it is unmatched.

The methods of transportation in Dubai are some of the best in the world. With a public transportation system ranked as one of the best metros in the world, to harbors that host some of the regions and worlds greatest yacht collections, Dubai is also home to the highest ownership of luxury sports vehicles per capital in the world. On any given day you will see some of the most beautiful cars ever made and that’s just what those people chose to take out that day because there is more where that came from.

Those that live in Dubai know that it gets you used to a certain standard of luxury in living and service, and it is one that is not easy to get out of nor to not find yourself comparing other cities to. Every element is the peak of luxury. From Dubai’s world class airports with the number one ranking airline in the world- Emirates Airlines, to their pristine roads, beaches, and deserts, it is safe to call this city the most luxurious in the world.

I urge those that have yet to visit this city to take a trip and experience the place that is the harbor for the definition of luxury- Dubai.
