The artist has become an in-depth investigator and portraitist of various elements of contemporary life: nature, society, politics, family, celebrities, economy, sports etc. nothing has escaped his critical, brilliant eye. His creative photographs of athletes, artists, ecclesiastics and politicians are iconic, and have earned him a number of prizes, including Opera Gallery’s World Press Awards.
From February 17 until March 1, Dubai’s Opera Gallery in DIFC is hosting a collection of some of Rancinan’s most powerful images, including his quirky take on famous faces (such as Monica Bellucci, Adriana Karembeu as Marilyn), family values (Family TV 2.0), the word of finance (Gang Bank), peace or the lack of it (Soldiers Save Our Values), press (Press Power) and other subjects. The exhibition builds on Dubai’s growing interest in unconventional art, which was confirmed by famous graffiti artist Seen’s exhibit at the gallery a while back.
