Gibson the global leader in music and sound is celebrating 120 years of innovation and in keeping with the theme of this milestone celebration, the company held a special event on 20th September 2014 in Dubai commemorating their 120th anniversary and in support of Peace One Day by bringing two extraordinary, first-of-their-kind art exhibitions to the Middle East!
Both exhibitions encapsulated a brand new take on musical art with “Gibson Through the Lens” – an exclusive globally touring photographic exhibition highlighting Gibson’s history and associated artists and the unveiling of “Guitar Art” – showcasing Gibson guitars customised by some of the UAE’s most well known artists along with one 120th anniversary Les Paul Custom signed by legendary musician Lenny Kravitz, all of which will be on auctioned in October.
The commissioned guitars were unveiled at the Gibson “Vision of Sound” event and went on to be displayed at the Waterfall Atrium in the Dubai mall the following day. The art guitars will be sold at a silent auction on the 22nd October 2014 between 4pm to 7pm at the Hard Rock Cafe with proceeds going to the Peace One Day Foundation plus a local charity.
Commenting on how the idea for the “Guitar Art” exhibition came to be, CEO of Gibson, Henry Juszkiewicz commented, “Gibson’s staff loved the ‘Art Wars’ exhibition at the Middle East Film & ComicCon, where local artists did creative treatments of iconic pop culture images. We wanted to see how these gifted artists would treat another iconic pop culture image—the Gibson guitar—as well as build on this opportunity to support charitable causes and build closer relations with our friends and supporters in the Middle East.”
The event also featured a special performance by Gibson endorsed band, Xander and the Peace Pirates who flew down especially to commemorate the launch.
More information on the silent auction will be shared closer to the event.
