Roger Dubuis has been presenting audaciously designed watched since 1995. Armed with boldness and extravagance, the brand is driven by determination. And speaking of driving, the Geneva-based Swiss Maison and car tyre legend Pirelli have taken their adrenaline-charged partnership on a new fast lap this May, with new versions of the recently launched Excalibur Spider Pirelli. We travelled with the two daring brands to Bordeaux, France, where we discovered the watch and witnessed the watchmaker and tyre manufacturer challenge all-comers to “dare to be rare” as they “dare to race” alongside the luxurious Run to Monaco on its 2017 journey. The partnership, characterized by privileged exclusivity, rampant virility and shared commitment to providing authentic money-can’t-buy experiences, aims at providing exclusive service for those who are looking to leave a memorable trace on and off the tarmac.
The Run to Monaco is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary experiences possible. Just like our trip, the journey is surrounded by fantastic scenery, stunning performance, adrenaline-pumping excitement and total luxury from start to finish. With the Excalibur Spider Pirelli – Automatic Skeleton on our wrist, an excursion on the famous Bassin d’Arcachon gave us a breath of fresh air and a closer look at the timepieces. The exclusive series is the result of the knowledge, comprehensive savoir-faire and sophisticated research of engineers from two separate fields, united by an innovative drive and expert skills. The two Excalibur Spider Pirelli Yellow and Red, with their robust 45mm skeleton case, feature the colors of the iconic tyre logo, perfectly complementing the unmistakable features of the Excalibur line.
Distinguished by a black and blue, red or yellow skeletonized flange, the new models’ color coding is highlighted even more by a titanium black DLC crown, over-moulded with the color of the flange, which also matches the stitching on the straps. The latter are manufactured from winning Pirelli motorsport tyre rubber, their interior featuring the distinctive tread profile, paying tribute to the winning streak that is embedded in the two brands’ DNAs. The 88-piece limited editions of each version of the Excalibur Spider Automatic Skeleton are powered by Roger Dubuis’ best-selling Calibre RD820SQ.
In parallel to the launch of the bold, new timepieces, the Pirelli Color Edition tyres raced in earlier this year at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show. Pirelli will soon be applying color to some of its road tyres in order to emphasize their uniqueness, drawing inspiration from its lengthy experience in racing competitions where the colors of the tyres identify their different compounds.
From a ride over a lake to the exciting start of the Run to Monaco experience, our journey took us back to the ‘source’, Les Sources de Caudalie, in the Château Smith Haut Lafitte vineyards just outside Bordeaux, for a gastronomic lunch and a well deserved wind-down from the excitement of the day.
