Davidoff of Geneva is known to be a purveyor of fine cigars, memorable lifestyles, pairing experiences and “Time Beautifully Filled”. Bringing all those together, the brand has partnered with top whisky makers Macallan to present a exceptional, single cask, the Macallan 1991 -25 Years Old- Single Cask, exclusively crafted for and sold at Davidoff of Geneva stores in Asia.
This single cask with 53.5% strength was aged for 25 years in a sherry butt cask, then bottled in December 2016, making it a unique and classic example of Macallan’s signature work. Only a thin cut of the distiller’s stills was used to fill the sherry-seasoned casks, with only a very small percentage of their casks allowed to be matured into single-cask-bottling quality. With only 494 units available, exclusively in Davidoff stores in Hong Kong, Macau, China, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore, it is a rare expression of sherry-seasoned Macallan, one that collectors and connoisseurs will seek avidly.
This charismatic, sharp and chiseled whisky, in which sherry oak is present but not overwhelming, first comes through as star anise and cardamom spiced, with subtle sulphur notes. Upon aeration, slight briny and salted caramel aromas emerge, adding a bright, modern and elegant aspect. A floral touch mixed with green apple hints come in, opening up to custardy notes of marmalade and candied orange peel that build up to a bright, nutty finish of rancio, green walnuts, leather and toasted notes.
Adding to its prestige, each 700ml. bottle is presented in a decanter and plush veneer box. If you are a whisky collector or aficionado, a trip to Asia might be well worth it!
