Mr. Ping Life Cigar World Tour: Our Latest Chat With Davidoff CEO Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard

As our readers know, we recently launched our Mr. Ping Life Cigar World Tour, which started in Basel, so it was only fitting to have a smoke and a friendly chat with our friend Hans-Kristian Hoejsgaard, CEO of Davidoff.

Hans-Kristian explained to us why Davidoff started using more tobacco from Brazil: after the “Black Pillar” from Nicaragua, Brazilian tobacco’s interesting taste combination encouraged the brand to integrate it to the blend of some of its cigars, hitting the spot with a certain consumer segment who is constantly looking for different flavors and smoking experiences.

Davidoff is always open to exploring new tastes, and smokers appreciate that widely, which is why the Nicaragua, Winston Churchill and Escurio, three lines that did not exist two years ago, now constitute one-third of the brand’s business. And in comes a whole new crowd of consumers!

While Switzerland is the cigar maker’s fifth largest market, the Middle East is a very important region too, especially now that Africa has been joined to the area. Expansion plans in the pipeline? Increasing the accessories line to 20% of the business. A flagship store at Dubai Duty Free would definitely ring the bell! And the brand is also looking at a prime location in Dubai Downtown, which of course, has us waiting impatiently.
